A New Rapid Method for the Authentication of Common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) in Seafood Products Using Recombinase Polymerase Amplification (RPA) and Lateral Flow Assay (LFA)

The common octopus (Octopus vulgaris) is a highly valued cephalopod species which marketed with different grades of processing, such as frozen, cooked or even canned, and likely to be mislabeled. Some molecular methods have been developed for the authentication these products, but they are either labor-intensive and/or require specialized equipment personnel. This work describes newly designed rapid, sensitive easy-to-use method detection Octopus vulgaris in food based on Recombinase Polymerase Amplification (RPA) using Lateral Flow assay (LFA). After studying several gene markers, system primers nfo-probe was COI (Cytochrome Oxidase I) region successfully tested 32 reference samples (covering 14 species) commercial after optimization. also validated ring trial eight European laboratories represents useful tool authenticity control at all levels value chain.
